You’ve lost all hope. You feel like life as you know it is over. You can’t imagine things ever getting better or returning back to “normal.” So much damage has been done. Too much pain caused. Too many words spewed and emotions dumped out. You feel empty inside with no energy or desire to push forward or fight back. Your heart pounds loudly inside of your chest and every beat that thumps reminds you that you are still alive even though you feel dead inside.
Your head, once spinning with anger, sadness or a combination of both, has now slowed its pace and is taunting you with lies…
There is nothing you can do to fix what you are going through. Things will never go back to how they once were. You will never recover from this. The repair and restoration necessary for healing is impossible, it will never happen.
You have sunken to an all-time low. You have no idea how you got here or even if you will ever be able to get out.
You feel weak, helpless, incapable of solving this problem or recovering from the wreckage surrounding you. Nothing makes sense. You have let go of anything you once believed to be true because you discovered it was false. But no wonder – when you put your hope in people and things you will always be let down because people and things will always let you down.
You are ready to throw in the towel and give up. Your impossible prayers seem just that – impossible.
But God.
“Nothing is impossible for God!”
Luke 1:37 (CEV)
Do you know what I’m talking about? Have you ever felt how I described above? Have you ever crawled down a wide and rocky road unsure where it was leading and desperately wanting to give up?
For three years and 7 months of my life that is exactly how I felt…but not that I was counting.
I felt everything described above. All of the pain, heartache, anger, tears, frustration, confusion and numbness. I tried anything, I questioned everything, and felt that my impossible prayers were truly impossible. For three years and 7 months they sure felt impossible.
But then one day something changed. I realized I couldn’t do it on my own anymore. No matter how hard I tried, and believe me, I tried, I could not make the situation better. I had done everything in my own strength with my own motivation and on my own agenda. My selfish ambition destroyed me until one day I realized I had nothing left to give. So I went in my closet, called my bible study leader, and threw the ultimate hail mary.
As she fearlessly prayed over me, I felt myself let go – I let go of my pride, my hurt, my regret, my anger, and most importantly, my self.
I opened my heart and all of the junk that weighed me down and clouded my judgment over those three years and 7 months was unexpectedly released.
My impossible prayer suddenly seemed possible.
Ten minutes later, I got off the phone with my bible study leader and my impossible prayer was a very real possiblity.
Everything changed and my life has never been the same.
Trust me, I have been there and I have thought the situation was too far gone to be repaired. I thought the relationship was irreconcilable and healing not capable but friend, oh was I wrong!
Nothing is impossible with God in the picture. Nothing is impossible with God on your side. Nothing is impossible with His strength, power and might fighting for you until victory is won!
Still – His will is His way.
After going what I went through for three years and 7 months, I knew things would never be the same again. What I didn’t know, however, was that they’d be SO MUCH BETTER.
But God.
Friends, there are some of you, perhaps many of you, reading this who know exactly what I am talking about. Maybe you’ve experienced this incredible transformation before or maybe you are in the dark thick of it right now. Maybe you are currently walking through it with someone you love or you are witnessing someone bound to the chains of believing the impossible prayer they desire is completely impossible. Wherever you find yourself, remember this – everything is possible with God.
So let go of your self and throw that hail mary with every last bit of strength you can muster on your own. Put it all out there and surrender.
What do you have to lose when you already feel like you’ve lost everything?
Take a chance and throw that hail mary. You may find you will receive a heart full of grace.
“But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””
Matthew 19:26 (ESV)
