Faith Forward Family Devotional

As my children get older, I am constantly seeking ways to connect and apply the Gospel to our everyday living and interactions. Our church does a fantastic job of supplying monthly devotional material that is both age appropriate and relatable to the children’s ministry’s monthly theme. Still, I find myself on the hunt for a broader and more diverse devotional my entire family can engage in.
I’ve been following Ruth Schwenk, author of numerous books, founder of thebettermom.com, fellow resident of Michigan and mother of four, for several years now. When I learned she and her husband, Patrick, were releasing a new family devotional I didn’t think twice about acquiring it.
Faith Forward Family Devotional by Ruth and Patrick Schwenk includes 100 devotions that families can do together nightly or at their own pace. From Genesis all the way to Revelation, each devotion in Faith Forward includes:
- A Bible passage
- A key idea that acts as a takeaway to learn and remember about the devotion’s theme
- A teaching you can read aloud that is applicable to children of all ages
- Questions that initiate family discussion
- Optional scripture references for further study
- A closing prayer to pray together as a family
When my family went through this devotional in 2019, I personally enjoyed our conversations that were inspired by the questions at the end of each devotion. It allowed my (then) 9-year-old the opportunity to expand on the topic we read about while my (then) 6-year-old was able to reflect on what we read and relate it directly to her life. Even my (then) 4-year-old son was engaged and wanted to give his opinion after hearing his big sisters respond to what was discussed.
