Consider the adage, “you are what you eat” – if you desire to lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle, you need to move your body and make a habit of eating nutritious food. Choosing to eat junk food may be easier, taste better, look more palatable, and over time, become something you crave. However, if junk food is a part of your regular diet, likewise, binge-watching television part of your standard routine, your body will never receive the nutrients necessary for good health nor the physical activity needed to thrive.
This concept is equally true for other behaviors we possess, activities we participate in, the people we surround ourselves with and the ideologies we believe.
Simply put – you become what you worship.
the person you become.
How is a person able to discern what is good and godly from what is wrong and worldly when the shouts of the world scream louder than the whispers of the Word?
Take heart, friend. You are not alone in this mixed up jumble of blurred lines, gray space and upside-down living that is life. Culture may evolve but God’s Word is unchanged. It is possible to live in the world without being of the world. But how?
Engage with culture. Discuss controversial issues. Have hard conversations. Go to uncomfortable places. Learn to understand . Relate. Stay rooted in the Word and you’ll be equipped to dig through the world’s messiness in order to uncover the message that lies beneath.
